Finite Element Modelling of Wear Behaviors of Composite Laminated Structure

Three different laminated composites are used in this study: carbon fiber, woven glass and glass-fiber-reinforced epoxy. The composite laminate structures were fabricated using the hand lay-up technique at room temperature. laminates reinforced with epoxy resin, fibers (CFRP), (GFRP-W), random-orientation (GFRP-R) to obtain eight layers. wear test was performed a pin-on-disc tribometer five loads of 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 N temperature constant speed 3 m/s. In addition, three surfaces lubricated: dry, grease, oil. effect lubrication on weight loss measured. linear elastic finite element model FEM derived simulate pin disc failure mode shear for case dry lubrication. allows friction force be measured determine coefficient numerically. For validation, simple analytical based stress induced by interfaces extracted measure coefficients. Tensile strength is characteristic property that very important purpose material description from model. Therefore, it determined experimentally tensile test. results show rate better GFRP-R composites. Moreover, grease lower than oil or dry. showed decreases normal minimum value 0.02 GFRP-R, while maximum 0.55 CFRP 10 load good agreement analytically data.
